but drowning in Christmas preparation.
We had snow last Friday. A decent amount of snow. A LOT of ice. So much ice on our completely untreated roads that we haven’t been able to get the car out. Might attempt it again tomorrow. I did try yesterday, but got stuck in the back lane then Ian had a go and ended up sliding the length of the lane in the other direction.
I did what all good housewives did – I dug up half the garden and laid a track of muddy grit for him to drive along. The elderly guy opposite dug and pounded through the ice with a shovel and between the three of us, we got the car into the garage. Looks like two of the tyres might be flat. What a wonderful way to pass the time.
So a huge thank you to the council in our area for not laying any of the grit that they assured us we had plenty of. That’s why they have so much. They never bloody use it.
Some last minute Christmas shopping and an empty pantry means that I have little to blog. I did make some truffles for Alex’s treachers, so shall update that as and when I can.
Oh, I almost forgot. Thanks to the Russian spammers who have taken a big interest in my site. I had 84 potential comments the other day and my little heart filled with joy until I realised it was all spam. Haven’t a clue what it all said, but there were loads of exclaimation marks, so I’m thinking it was exciting.
Merry Christmas one and all and I’ll try to get to the truffles when I can. x
How about a fudgy chocolate cake? Hmmm?
How about a Bakewell Slice?
How about some cinnamon buns?
Thought so.
I’m meeting up with friends on Tuesday, so I’ll be baking all 3 tomorrow and Tuesday morning.
Preparation is the key. I have sorted out the pans I need, cut the baking paper circles for the chocolate cakes and weighed out the dry ingredients. My kitchen looks like a Small Bowl Emporium, but it does mean I’ll be able to get baking straightaway.
After I’ve fed the cats.
Given Alex his breakfast.
Made some coffee.
Second thoughts… Ian can do that. I’ll just get baking. Stay tuned for tomorrow, folks!
This song is for Brendrina, who went through 9 cartridges and 17 boxes of paper in a quick ‘I’ll just print this recipe off’ moment.
After much brain-storming and technical wizardry, Ian has managed to get the recipes on a clickable link.
Where a recipe is posted at the end of a post, there will be a phrase that says ‘print recipe’. Click on that and the recipe will open on another page, ready for your printing pleasure.
Hope that helps! xxx
Well, this is all spankingly new and exciting. My poor techno-proficient husband is walking me through the finer points of blog-management. Sweet man…poor sweet man. He keeps biting the side of his thumb; wonder why?
Now that I’m learning the way around this thing, I’m getting ready to start posting some of the cooking I do for the 3 of us and some of the scrummy desserts and cakes that we share with family and friends.
Stay tuned.
